Since the opening of the trial program in the spring of 2014, Oxford Nanopore has achieved good results. After using the MinION sequencer, several users published their research results in top magazines and expressed satisfaction with the performance of the sequencer. Recently, Oxford Nanopore plans to expand the early trial program and announced the price of the flow cell for the first time.

Oxford Nanopore said last month that it plans to sell the MinION sequencer through the MinIon Access Program. Customers only need to join MAP and pay $1,000 to get the MinION MkI device and a starter kit, including three flow cells, two kits, software, and regular free supplies.

Last month, Oxford Nanopore hosted the London Calling User Conference in London and released the MinION MkI sequencer, an upgraded version of the MinION sequencer. According to reports, its performance and ease of use have been improved, including better temperature control, and connected to the flow cell in an improved way.

In addition to waiting for a free flow cell, users can purchase it themselves. Oxford Nanopore also announced the price of the flow cell. If you buy a single flow cell, the price is $900. If packaged for purchase, the price will naturally be cheaper. The Oxford Nanopore is available in 12, 24 and 48 packages with a minimum price of $500 per flow cell.

The Oxford Nanopore does not specify the maximum throughput for each flow cell, which will increase as the version is updated. The running time is also not fixed, so the output depends on the length of the run. Last year, the company said its internal record was 1 Gb per flow cell, and some customers achieved more than 500 Mb per flow cell.

At the same time, the company also plans to introduce a fast model, which can increase data production by 10 times, and this number may increase to 17 times in two months. In normal mode, 30 bases per second can be read; in fast mode, 500 bases are read per second. The fast mode allows the MinION MkI to produce 40 Gb.

How to join the MinION Trial Program is detailed on the Oxford Nanopore website. Applicants need to fill out the registration form on the website, read the relevant terms and conditions, and pay the $1,000 fee and the appropriate shipping cost to get the MinION sequencer. After receiving the instrument, the user will need to use the attached lambda sample to perform the "downtime" experiment. If the results of the experiment are satisfactory, you need to inform Oxford Nanopore and use your own sample. If you are not satisfied, you can opt out.

Currently, the MinION sequencer supports multiple applications, including genomic DNA, cDNA and amplicon sequencing. At the same time, Oxford Nanopore also encourages users to develop more new applications.
