Shift Labs wants to be the "honeycomb" of medical hardware. They are targeting less complex, lower-cost medical devices and hardware, while amplifying the user's decision-making power in the design process. The CEO of Shift Labs said that some medical device manufacturers told him that "not wanting to do cheap products, just can't afford it."

Shift Labs' first product is an infusion pump that monitors the flow rate and prevents nurses from having to come over to inquire, check, and manually evaluate adjustments.

Typically, an infusion pump is worth $5,000 to $15,000, and this product costs $225. However, the latter cannot be used as a liquid pump and can only be used for monitoring and alarming. The function is castrated, but the price is cheaper and the selection dimension has increased.

Currently this product is mainly sold abroad, including Uganda and Vietnam. According to the CEO, after obtaining FDA certification, they can enter the US domestic market.

In fact, what Shift Labs is doing now can be summed up by "moving, simplifying, and cheaping" medical devices.

How to do it? GE Healthcare recently exhibited the latest version of the Vscan Ultrasound Diagnostics, which has partially changed the traditional instruments in ultrasound diagnosis and adjusted the application scenarios.

The most common scene of ultrasound examination should be B-ultrasound. Traditional large-scale ultrasound diagnostic equipment has a variety of probes, such as flat and round. Different divisions of labor, such as one can only be a blood vessel, and the other is an abdomen. There are also complicated buttons on the console.

The Vscan change, first on the probe, is to achieve "two in one", professionally known as line array and phased array two-in-one probe, one side square, one side long, the diagnosis range covers the deep part of the human body, such as the liver, Kidney, heart, etc., as well as shallow parts, such as superficial tissue, skeletal muscles and peripheral blood vessels.

Compared with the traditional ultrasonic tester, the image perception is not much different. However, Vscan cannot perform accurate data measurements on large machines, and most of them use morphological observation to determine if there is a problem and the severity.

But the team believes that the purpose of Vscan is not to replace traditional medical devices, but to advance and simplify the diagnosis. The main application scenarios include early judgment and screening by family or community doctors and general practitioners.
